Tell Me

What does "risk" mean to you? What comes to mind?

Examples:
-Risky actions
-Risky inaction
-Risk of saying the wrong thing
-Risk in saying the right thing
-Risk of not saying anything
-Risky thoughts

Risk, on its own, to me means big payoffs are possible but big losses are also possible.

However, risky, attached to other words like "actions," "behavior," etc conveys a sense of poor judgment (engaging in risky sexual behaviors, engaging in risky driving behaviors, etc).

To me, risk is a measure of what you stand to lose, not so much what you stand to gain.

When I get into something that I think is "risky," I don't say, "If I do this, I could come out on top!" I think more along the lines of, "If I do this, is it worth losing so and so?"

And isn't there a "damned if you do, and damned if you don't" feel to the risk of not saying anything? Taking a risk of not say anything means that you decided to forever hold your peace. But the whole reason behind why you want to keep quiet is because your feelings may not be something someone wants to hear. So if you DIDN'T take that risk to shut up, then don't you run the risk of saying the wrong thing?

What have you got me into, TH??

Risk is going to Vegas and staying up for 35 hours straight, DESPITE the fact you KNOW you are almost 35 and get sick without 8 hours a night...
